Boston Medical Education Designs tasked us with a significant project for their online dental education platform. We aimed to achieve the highest possible level of realism, both in the assets used in the profession and in the procedures themselves. We developed every aspect of their product, not only the CGI and video content for the dentistry degree showcase on their platform. but also all promotional materials and designed the platform itself, along with their corporate identity.

The Tools

To ensure the explanatory videos are as realistic and accurate as possible, the dental tools were engineered with millimeter precision. We conducted simulations using these tools, where the tooth carving process required exact accuracy.

Simulations

One of the biggest challenges in computer graphics is creating dynamic geometries, particularly those where the number and order of vertices change frame by frame. To tackle this challenge, we used Houdini as our tool of choice. By utilizing volumetric voxels, we were able to run our hand-animated sequences through our Houdini setup and perform frame-by-frame Boolean operations to simulate the carving process of dental burs on a tooth.
